We drove another 5 hours northwest and arrived in Alabama on Wednesday afternoon.  We're staying at another COE on the Tombigbee River.  Its been hot here so we rode our scooters in the morning before  the temp reached 90 something.  There's a nice hiking trail just up the road that we'll check out tomorrow morning. 


Also I have a new hammock!


It's so peaceful and quiet here.  There are very few other people camping which is why we like to travel in the fall.  Kids are back in school and I think the high gas prices are also keeping some RV's off the road.  We're here until Sunday and then headed to Mississippi.

  We left the Brandon Elks Lodge Monday morning Sept 14 and drove 5 hours north into Georgia. We stayed at the Eastbank Army Corp of Engineers campground where we have stayed a few times before.  It was hot and the love bugs were out but it was still beautiful and relaxing.  We stayed for 3 nights and then headed out. Here's what our rig looks like this trip.  We're towing the jeep and added the roof rack for extra storage. This is the view of the sunset over the lake, right behind our site.

BIG barge on the river

This barge came right behind our campsite. It was surreal watching this big long boat cruise so close to us down this small, lazy river. I copied this from Google : These diesel-powered tugs push heavy cargo barges up and down the river and through the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, moving bulk commodities like coal, grain, and petroleum products. During the 1800s, shallow-draft wooden steamboats dominated the river, transporting cotton down to Mobile and returning with manufactured goods. Before steamboats became common, early settlers and traders used flat-bottomed keelboats and flatboats that drifted downstream with the current.
